NAMIBIA

February 14th 2004 Bob Rob & Myself went on the fishing trip of

a life time, we had 2 weeks in Namibia southern Africa fishing for

the Bronze whaler sharks on the skeleton coast.

After a 22 hour journey including 3 flights we met up with Steve McGuire of Mola Mola uk.

Steve organized the trip for us which included fishing guides and rods etc, hotel, and 10 days

fishing the beaches of Namibia, this was one of my dreams. To fish these beaches you need

a 4 wheel drive vehicle, all the guides had 4x4s.

The first day I was the lucky one, I caught a gully shark, a bull ray, and 3 Bronzes over 50kgs.

Robin caught a gully shark & a Bronzy of about 60kgs, and Bob had a bad days fishing.

Bobs luck soon changed and my luck grew.

On the 3rd day we had permission to fish a beach which has been untouched for

over ten years. We were invited by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources

to help with the tagging of sharks, what they wanted us to do was catch the

sharks so they could be tagged logged and released.

This was everybody's best day fishing, between 9 anglers we caught 57 Bronze's.

I caught the most shark's, 10 fish all over 45kgs the biggest 80kgs in 6 hours fishing.

Several people have told us that this had never be achieved before, that makes it a

record. As well as my catch Bob caught 8 Bronze's to over 60kgs which is believed

to be the second best catch ever, and Robin caught 5 Bronze's with the biggest of

the day a huge 115kgs.

Catching these sharks is great fun and heart stopping, the fights can last well over 1 hour

some fights last 2-3 hours. These sharks can run 400 mts of line out without stopping.

By the end of the holiday Robin had caught 10 Bronze's to 125kgs Bob had caught 12 Bronze's

to 105kgs, I had caught 18 Bronze's to 100kgs and a 40kg honeycomb ray the biggest from

the beach by a British angler. We also caught smooth sharks, gully sharks, sand sharks,

lazy sharks, cob, and barbel.

The hotel was perfect for fishermen, food was delicious, the people were very friendly.

Food and drink are cheap so you don't need allot of money.

Its only a matter of time before I return to Namibia, if you get the opportunity to go

shark fishing from the shore do your self a favor and go. Its the best thing I've done.
