IRELAND

Me and my other half Nicky took a holiday to Ireland. So being a fisherman I took

a little tackle with me, 4 rod & reels and a rucksack of tackle. I thought I would get

a couple of trips in. We stayed in County Cork, I've heard quite a lot about Cork harbor

and was keen to have a dabble.

                                                                         Over looking Cork harbor

While we were sight seeing one day we drove round the harbor, I spotted a couple

of tasty looking spots. So the next night I was armed with some fresh mackerel and

two rods, I headed for Monkstown one of the spots I chose. By dusk I had my first

rod cast, the tide was ripping through and I found it hard to fish. A local man came

and I had a little chat, I asked him where you catch conger around here, he told me

I wouldn't catch any here you need to go to the end of the foot tunnel up there you'll

catch conger there to be sure. So I went 200yds up the road parked my car next to the

sea wall cast my first rod out cast my second rod, and the ratchet on my first rod screamed

into life. I let it take a bit of line then set the hook the rod thumped over and I was into

a good fish, a couple of minutes later a nice conger of about 18-20lb was at the bottom

of a 20ft sea wall there were some steps about 100yds away I started to walk to them and

the fish came off. within 3 hours I had 2 more conger about 8-10lb and 3 doggies.

The next night I was itching for more so after sight seeing I suggested to Nick that we fished

for a couple of hours she said ok, sorted. With in five minutes of arriving we had a strap

conger on the deck, then another and another plus 2 doggies not bad for one and a half hours

fishing. The fish were all small but what great sport, I have heard of fish over 50lb coming

from shore marks around Cork harbor I can't wait to return for a weeks fishing.

I fished a couple of days freshwater and caught plenty of fish, Tench, Bream, roach, trout,

Dace and perch. We also took a trip to Dingle but I had no rods, I will never visit Dingle

again without rods. The coast and Inch beach looked to a fisherman like paradise.

A storm building over Inch beach

There are hundreds of rock marks around Dingle

                                                                                  I will return
